Biography
Andreas Vetö is an accomplished Danish conductor, known for his dynamic and versatile approach to music. With a background spanning classical, jazz, and contemporary music, he has made a impact on the Danish music scene. His career includes collaborations with leading orchestras such as The Danish Chamber Orchestra, Odense Symphony Orchestra, and Tivoli Copenhagen Phil.
As CEO of The Danish Chamber Orchestra from 2017 to 2024, he played a pivotal role in transforming the orchestra into an independent and financially sustainable institution, broadening its artistic scope and strengthening its position in the cultural landscape. This transformation was recognized with the Gazelle Prize twice, highlighting the orchestra’s remarkable growth and adaptability in a competitive cultural sector.
Andreas Vetö was instrumental in opening up classical music to a wider audience, introducing new formats, and working actively with audience development to engage new and diverse listeners. During this period, he conducted more than 160 concerts across Denmark and on prestigious international stages such as Barbican Centre in London, Musiikkitalo in Helsinki, and Oslo Concert Hall.
Beyond symphonic concerts, Andreas has been deeply involved in musical theatre, leading productions such as Jesus Christ Superstar, The Sound of Music, Chess, and The Full Monty, among others. His passion for music extends to educational projects and his commitment to cultural outreach. He has conducted numerous school concerts and youth initiatives, emphasizing music’s social potential and its ability to inspire and educate younger generations. In addition, he has been actively engaged in working with big bands, collaborating with DR Big Band on multiple occasions, including major projects and recordings. He also founded Det Ny Big Band in 2011, leading various projects with the ensemble over the years, and directed the Sinatra Night concert series from 2010 to 2012.
His career also includes work in television, conducting for productions such as Celebrating Dolly, Det Store Juleshow med Burhan G, and Charlies Nytårsshow. In addition, he has recorded extensively, with notable releases including Reflections and Stand on Your Feet and Fight with DR Big Band, as well as Sange fra Højskolesangbogen and En Aften med Andersen with The Danish Chamber Orchestra.
A graduate of The Royal Danish Academy of Music, Andreas continuously explores new ways to bridge the worlds of classical and popular music, bringing fresh perspectives to orchestral performance. His ability to merge tradition with innovation has made him a respected conductor and artistic collaborator. He continuously explores new ways to engage audiences and develop orchestral performance.
